During the Edo period, Totsuka-juku was established in the Totsuka area and flourished as a post town. Totsuka-juku was strategically located at a distance where travelers leaving Edo in the morning would reach for their first night's stay, making it a bustling area. With the opening of the railway line between Yokohama Station and Kōzu Station in 1887, Totsuka Station was established, shifting the main mode of transportation from the Tokaido road to the railway. After World War II, the volume of transportation increased rapidly, leading to successive railway openings at Totsuka Station. Today, it has grown into a terminal station in the western part of Yokohama City.
