In the Showa era, it merged with neighboring villages to become the present town. The former town center used to be along National Route 140, but it has developed with the opening of the Chichibu Railway and the construction of bypass roads. The main industries now are commerce and industry, with a particular focus on precision machinery manufacturing. Additionally, the town is actively promoting tourism agriculture centered around grapes and mushrooms.
